Feb. 15th, 2003 09:18 amI awake this morning with the startling realisation that I will not be able to visit here untouched. I will love other people here. I will lose them when I leave. There is no way to remain apart and safe, without giving and receiving in return. I do not look forward to the prospect of more loss. But the friendship and love I have found overwhelms me.
It's been really busy this week, but mostly with uninteresting homework. Only interesting things were the rehearsals for the presentation that the Ballroom Dance Club is putting on at the Festival of Dance at the end of March. Oh yeah, on Thursday night after class we were all trying on our dress up clothes (Samantha has lent me this great black lace bodice thing) and I had the completely strange impulse to make pancakes, which took us late into the night. Well, you can't do too much wrong with pancakes, even if you don't remember the recipe. Oh well, they tasted good. Mmmm... hungry now. No breakfast food. Mmmm. And then early on Valentine's Day, Vera and I walked down to the Eaton centre yesterday to go shopping for her Valentine's day present for Lucas. I have to say, I hate shopping for jeans with a long-legged skinny blue eyed blonde, but I got root beer! (You don't understand, I haven't really been anywhere with root beer since I was a kid!) Now, we walked both to save the money on using the subway as well as to get some exercise, but after our, ah, slightly late night, both of us were exhausted! :)
After a bit of a rest, I headed out (a bit nervously) to be my first Little T-associated function, Cathy Bruce's Valentine's Day party. There were a couple of little hiccups getting there - my perpectual laziness about leaving on time ... and getting let into her apartment! Apparently the intercom and phone systems are linked, and someone was on the phone. But no matter. When I _did_ get in, it was great! Lots of truffles, amazing cheesecakes, nice wines, and so on. We (in the general group sense rather than the specific group sense including me) played Encore - where you get a category and have to sing bits of songs that fall in that category. Very amusing. I could never have played by myself. I never remember songs.
After that, I somehow got taken to the other Little T party that was on that night at Stephen's place by Jon, Dan and Heather. (Interesting side notes, Jon and Drew (?) both dated Heather. Jon climbs mountains for fun. You know with like axes and ropes and drilling holes in rock to put in peg things.)
Okay, my questions for the day. Can someone who knows about biology explain how we developed humour, art, etc. purely as part of evolution?
For those who walk my path with me, what are the parts of Christianity that you consider fundamental? What do you have to reject to reject salvation?
