Mar. 17th, 2002 11:19 amYesterday I went to SAIL (Sudanese Australian Integrated Learning) for the first time. SAIL is a program where refugee kids from Sudan (surprise, surprise) get English tutoring from volunteers for an hour or so every Saturday. It was great. (If you care, my usual course of action is to avoid kids - the best description is probably from Robin McKinley's Deerskin - where Ash doesn't know what to do with the puppies. They cry and need feeding and changing... *wry grin*) The kids are absolutely gorgeous. It's heartbreaking in some ways, that they're so desperate for attention. The only thing is that it's in Footscray. For those who don't know Melbourne, that's all the way on the other side of the city, which makes it a hassle to drive and the PT is also a pain. *sigh* Ah well, it's probably character-building.
